Now I really hope that any Full Metal Alchemist fan knows the BASIC storyline for this. You ain't getting the basic stoyline here... you are getting MAJOR SPOLERS!! MUWAHAHA!! (And by now you're probly thinking... this dude's on crack... well I assure you.. I'm not.
Don't ask why there is a giant Envy there... I assure you he is not my favorite... Maybe because

Behold, a happy Elric family. Edward loved his daddy, Alphonse is born, and all is good in the world. But... they get older... and their best friend Winry Rockbell's parent's die in the war. A surprise attack. Winry is crushed (you would be too), and Edward mentions a little thing called a homunculus. A living body thats kind of like a puppet in a way.
BUT! Ed and Al's dad left. Their mom went through depression, but did a very very good job of hiding it. Untill one day! She collapsed on the floor of their house, so when Ed and Al got home, the first thing they get to see is their mom laying on the ground uncontious. The doctor came, yadda yadda... and their mom ended up dying. Edward gets the idea to bring her back to life, using alchemy (kinda see where I got the name of the sire from)So they go and find them selves, a teacher.
Izumi-sensei! She worked them hard! She is a tough teacher, and has had a pretty hard life, what with her son dying and all. Izumi did the same thing that teh Elric brothers are going to do... so preformed human transmutation to bring her son back. Now, everytime you use human transmutation, a homunculus is born (hi Wrath) Wrath is her baby. She payed by loosing her internal organs.
Ed and Al preformed human transmutation to try to bring their mother back to life when they came back from training. They failed to bring her to life... but Sloth was born. The gate opened, and had to take something in return for this preformance, so they took Ed's left leg, and Al's entire body. With his last strenght, Edward attatched Al's soul to a near by suit of armor, sacraficing his arm to do so. he got automail, Roy came, blah blah blah, some other good stuff, and that's episode three in a nutshell.
